Secret City Half Marathon training program – coming soon
August 9, 2024The Secret City Half Marathon is a highlight of the running calendar here in Oak Ridge, and with the race scheduled for November 30, 2024, now is the perfect time to step up your training. Whether you’re a seasoned runner aiming for a personal best or tackling the 13.1 miles for the first time, the journey to race day is always better with a supportive community by your side.
That’s where the Oak Ridge Running Club comes in. We’re inviting runners of all levels to join our group training runs, designed to help you stay motivated, improve your performance, and build lasting friendships along the way. Here’s why you should lace up and join us.
Why Group Training Runs?
Training for a half marathon is a significant commitment. The early mornings, long runs, and tough workouts can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially if you’re tackling them alone. But when you join our group training runs, you’re not just running—you’re becoming part of a community that cheers you on, pushes you to be your best, and makes the training journey enjoyable.
Motivation to Keep Going
Let’s face it—5 a.m. runs can be tough, especially when your bed is calling your name. But when you know there’s a group of friendly faces waiting for you, getting out of bed becomes easier. Our group runs provide the accountability you need to stay on track with your training plan. Plus, the energy of running alongside others can be incredibly motivating, especially on days when your own energy is lagging.
Camaraderie and Support
Running solo has its perks, but there’s nothing like the camaraderie of a group run. Sharing the experience with others—whether it’s pushing through a tough workout, chatting during easy miles, or celebrating after a long run—makes the miles fly by. Our group is welcoming and supportive, making it easy to connect with other runners, share tips, and build friendships that go beyond running.
Pace and Performance Improvement
Running with others can help you push your limits and discover new levels of performance. Whether you’re trying to improve your pace or maintain a steady rhythm, there’s likely someone in the group who matches your speed. And if you’re looking for a challenge, running with faster runners can help you push yourself in a safe and structured way.
Group Run Schedule (all runs start at Melton Lake Park in Oak Ridge)
- Thursdays at 5 a.m.: Start your day strong with an early morning run that sets the tone for the rest of the week.
- Saturdays at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.: Whether you’re an early bird or prefer to catch a few extra minutes of sleep, we’ve got a time that works for you.
Each run is designed to accommodate runners of all levels, so don’t worry if you’re new to the sport or just getting back into it. Our group is all about encouragement and making sure everyone feels included, no matter their pace or experience level.
Training Plans for Solo Runs
We understand that life is busy, and sometimes you can’t make it to a group run. That’s why we also provide training plans to keep you on track during your solo runs. These plans are tailored to help you build mileage safely, improve your endurance, and get you race-ready for the Secret City Half Marathon.
Our coaches are always available to answer questions and offer advice, so even when you’re running alone, you’re never really on your own.
